Suomi Finland 100 – the largest light installation in the world
During the 100 years independence celebration of Finland, the mountain Saana, located around 500 km above the polar circle, will be illuminated in the national color of Finland. This is the largest temporary light installation ever realized.
The illuminated surface is 2.5 million square meters wide. This is a surface of about 350 football fields. The technical supervision and creative head for this unique light installation is the Finnish light artist Kari Kola. With the motto Luminous 100 several light installations were realized in different places in Finland over the last few weeks. This installation marathon found its peak on the mountain Saana.
On his search for the perfect lighting source for this application Kari Kola made his decision after several extreme tests in favor of the Chroma from the German light manufacturer EHRGEIZ. Only EHRGEIZ was able to provide a fixture that was able to resist the icy temperatures from far below -20°C and to produce enough light output on the same time to light up Saana in this brightness.
Overall only 136 pieces of the Chroma were needed. All equipped with special blue LEDs.
Steven Braun, Chief Executive Officer of the EHRGEIZ Lichttechnik GmbH travelled to Finland and says:
“It was a stunning and a unique project under the harshest conditions. The biggest light installation ever and we are proud to be a part of this with our lamps. Even the polar lights came up on this clear and dark night to have a look on the blue shining Saana.”
“For the Luminous 100 project I had a great team and the best fixtures possible for this kind and size of installation. We have realized the biggest, temporary light installation in the world and I am very proud to have with EHRGEIZ such a trustful longtime partner by my side.” says Kari Kola.

EHRGEIZ at Airbeat One
At the weekend between the 14th and 17th July 2016 the Airbeat One music festival took place at the airfield in Neustadt-Glewe. Mussic Eggert from Lübtheen is organising the festival for the 15th time. At this year’s anniversary edition the big names of electronic music entered the stage. Overall 120 acts including actual #1 DJ’s of the world like Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Steven Aoki, Tiësto and Martin Solveig delighted the 40.000 visitors.
This year the Airbeat One Festival was allocated in “Asia” with a mainstage designed like the skyline of Tokyo. On a Layher 100 x 30 metres construction the Tokyo look was generated with different deco elements, LED screens and lamps. Besides the 40 LED screens more than 300 lamps were used in the set up. One of the eye catchers in this setup were the 86 SuperNova RGBW by EHRGEIZ. They were used as a strobe light and spread all over the main stage. Thanks to the 1372 RGBW LEDs by OSRAM and the special pixel free optic the SuperNova RGBW generates 60.000 Lumen and coloured strobe flashes.
Another big plus of the SuperNova RGBW is the IP65 classification with the eventCON system. Thanks to this feature the SuperNova can be used easily in outdoor areas such as at the Airbeat One Festival. Besides the SuperNova RGBW also 54 EHRGEIZ Chroma 40 RGBW were used all over the festival area and the mainstage floor.
All lamps, the 400m² LED screens as well as the SuperNova RGBW were provided and built up by HELI Showequipment. The beam angle of 110° turns this lamp into an universal tool.
„Due to the pixel free optic and the powerful light output the SuperNova RGBW is a unique product on the market. Furthermore it convinces, like the Chroma 40, with its high quality housing, road ability and full outdoor ability. Also the eventCON system was very effective in this set up through the possibility to group fixtures. “ so Uwe Heinrich
The SuperNova was also used this summer during the Sonne Mond und Sterne and the Think? festival.
Luminale 2016 – united in diversity
For the lighting installation at the European Central Bank‘s Eurotower in Frankfurt am Main, Thomas and Michael Giegerich from bright! created a partially generative facade projection based on the European anthem “Ode to Joy” by Ludwig van Beethoven. bright! opted for 30 EHRGEIZ Chroma floodlights for illuminating the 148 meter high building.
For the eighth time, Luminale, the light culture biennial, took place in Frankfurt am Main in conjunction with Light + Building. During the six-day event, visitors could witness small and large lighting installations in many public places, which allowed them to experience the city from a completely new perspective.
One of the highlights of Luminale was certainly the illumination of the 148 meter high Eurotower of the European Central Bank (ECB). Based on the official motto of the European Union “united in diversity”, the team at bright! GmbH headed by the two brothers and founders Thomas and Michael Giegerich turned the prestigious building into the heart of a generic lighting and projection installation.
The basis was the European anthem – an extract from the prelude of “Ode to Joy” from Ludwig van Beethoven‘s world famous 9th symphony. A computer algorithm put together the individual, constantly changing video elements of the approximately three-minute video installation, using various empirical indices (e.g. the number of spoken languages in the European Union) to project new and constantly changing images onto the Eurotower‘s facade. This is how the lighting installation from bright! placed the diversity of the European society in an interacting interplay with European unity, represented by Ludwig van Beethoven‘s European anthem. An instance of this installation was also projected onto the new headquarters of the European Central Bank (ECB) in Frankfurt‘s Ostend district.
A total of 28 projectors were used to carry out this impressive lighting and projection show. The video content was played via d3 media servers, and the projectors were arranged on top of each other in stacks of four. Each generative, constantly changing design needs a fixed point, a visual basis, which accompanies the diversity, embedding it into a harmonious overall picture. For this task, bright! used a total of 30 EHRGEIZ Chroma LED outdoor floodlights which were placed on the canopy of the Eurotower, bathing the facade on the left and the right in a cozy blue light. “The Chromas and the lighting are turning the facade projection into a complete illumination of the building. And in between the installations the building effectively can “take a break” in the light from the Chromas,” said Michael Giegerich. “Thomas (Giegerich) used the Chromas before, for me it‘s the first time here at Luminale. We had a number of test set-ups in advance and were really impressed by them.” Apart from the light output (“A lot of output for very little lamp”) and color quality, the beam angle in particular played an important role for bright!. “Thanks to the Chroma‘s 15° lenses we were able to illuminate the building upwards very effectively.”
EHRGEIZ Chroma illuminated "Wheel of Vision" at capital city Duesseldorf
Since 23th of October, visitors and residents of Duesseldorf had a unique and amazing view on the city. During the whole winter period, the giant ferris wheel “ Wheel of Vision” was based on the Burgplatz in the capital city, close to the river Rhine.
With a height of 55m, offer the Wheel of Vision 42 gondelas with place for 8 person each. Similar to the low energy uptake of the whole system, the Chroma is the perfect solution for a long term installation over months. The energy – consumption of the complete system including 2 LED screens, 1000m LED stripes, 20 Chroma 15° angle and 20 Chroma 43°angle is round about 20kw, preferably from economic energy provider.
The Ehrgeiz Chroma 40 RGBW is a high class washlight with 40 pc of 15 W LEDs. Especially architectural applications benefit from an extraordinary homogenous colour mixture paired with an amazing strong light power. The extremely good processing and the possibility of changing lens plates shows the premium position in the market. The EventCON system offer a fast and flexible installation, even under rough condition with IP 67 VDE certification.
This installation would be realized with the rental equipment of the company Charlys checkpoint. The owner of the giant ferris wheel would invest now in Ehrgeiz Chroma LED washlights for all ferris wheels in his inventory.

Kari Kola relies on EHRGEIZ CHROMA during “Istanbul Light Festival”
From 13th to 29th November visitors to Istanbul can experience the 1st Istanbul Light Festival in the Turkish megacity. The main attraction is the impressive light installation “Light is Here” by Finnish lighting designer Kari Kola. The 360° lighting spectacle with hundreds of lights paired with a combination of multichannel Soundscape compositions stages the gigantic Zorlu Center. A key part of the light installation are the CHROMA LED wash lights by EHRGEIZ.
The Zorlu center consists of four skyscrapers as well as the second largest shopping mall in Europe and contains furthermore a concert hall, a hotel, office and conference rooms as well as apartments. To illuminate the large building complex effectively, Kari Kola lighting designer and multimedia artist trusted among others 20 Ehrgeiz Chroma. “The saturation of the Chroma is really extraordinary and it seemed to be made perfectly for this task. In the future I will work more often with them – the next units are already ordered,” says Kola. (For the lower parts of the building, 40x Varytec LED Typhoon Outdoor Par lights were used)
In the beginning of 2015, Kari Kola already impressed with his lighting installations when he illuminated the UNESCO headquarter in Paris. Kolas installations sometimes create associations of the famous Northern Lights which can be seen in clear nights in Finland.
